Vote IGNITE! UCI if you desire a more complete college experience.
My name is Isaac Yerushalmi and I am running for ASUCI President. With a strong background in political activism, corporate marketing, and business management, I am confident that my election to the Office of the President will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our student government, providing you with a MORE COMPLETE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE.
☑ IGNITE! CAMPUS LIFE: Increase social opportunities on campus by transforming UCI into more of a community, rather than just a campus. I will work with the VP of Student Services to offer students more day-to-day opportunities to interact with students they would not usually interact with.
☑ IGNITE! SCHOOL SPIRIT: Support our 23 Division 1 sports teams by increasing the quality and quantity of tailgates and pub pre-games, and engaging Greeks, the Cross, and other student organizations to take part in supporting our athletic teams. I will work towards offering shuttle services to weekend games from Newport, Parkwest, and on campus housing in order to increase attendance and make UCI into a more environmentally friendly campus.
☑ IGNITE! CONCERTS: As an entrepreneur and businessman, I’m a skilled negotiator and carry a strong understanding of the market. I will work directly with the VP of Student Services to increase cost efficiency of concerts, allowing us to bring more recognizable artists to UCI without having to raise ASUCI fees.
☑ IGNITE! PARKING: Work with UCI Administration and Parking Services to offer free parking on campus on evenings and weekends. UCSD has adopted this policy. This would make our campus more fluid, and would IGNITE! night life at UCI.
☑ IGNITE! GREEK LIFE: As a member of an IFC Fraternity, I understand the needs of the Greek community. I share an outstanding relationship of nearly 2 years with our Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, and Dean of Students, and will aggressively lobby and fight for the changes we want to see on campus. A Greek Row cannot be promised in one, two, or even three terms, so we need to create a long term plan of where we envision the Greek Community at UCI in 5 years, 10 years, and 20 years. FACT: Greek Alumni donate disproportionately more to UCI compared to non-Greek Alumni. By creating a Greek Alumni Association, and engaging in open and honest dialogue with our Administration, UCI’s Greek Community will gain political power and will see real results.
☑ IGNITE! FOOD: Expand dining services to areas on campus where students are hungry, such as Arroyo Vista, Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences. In addition, my cabinet will work towards providing more satisfying and affordable food options in the Student Center food courts. By lessening the power of Aramark Corporation, which currently holds a de facto monopoly over all food at UCI, we will be able to bring more desirable and affordable food options to UCI (i.e. Chipotle, Panda Express).
☑ IGNITE! BIKE AND SKATE POLICY: Create a task force to brainstorm ways to provide students with more freedom over transportation, while increasing safety and minimizing liability to the University. UCI Policy should be more lenient and accommodating to bikers and skaters, and UCI should encourage students to utilize GREEN transportation.
☑ IGNITE! SHUTTLE SERVICE: Expand ASUCI’s shuttle service to areas with high demand, helping to make UCI a greener campus. My cabinet will work towards creating a late night shuttle that runs between Campus and Newport Beach until 2AM on Thursdays, providing students with a safe, late-night method of transportation.
☑ IGNITE! OUR BUDGET: Work with the Executive VP in coordinating a more effective strategy to fight student fee increases. My cabinet will also aggressively work to increase financial aid for those who need it most.
☑ IGNITE! ASUCI: Increase transparency and accountability in ASUCI, and give ASUCI a new meaning to students. You deserve the right to know where your $54 / year ASUCI fee is going, and you should be encouraged to criticize ASUCI’s elected leadership for any spending you believe is ineffective, inefficient, or useless. UCI should be a democratic campus. Democracy is not voting once a year; it’s something that exists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. As President, I will encourage criticism of my office.
☑ IGNITE! ASUCI TECHNOLOGY: Create a new Web 2.0 ASUCI website integrated with Facebook Connect, which features up to date news on the on goings and progress of each ASUCI Office. You will be able to see how your elected representatives vote on issues, and interactively take part in the decision making that affects you. The ASUCI website will provide you with the resources you need to make your life easier such as information on off-campus housing options, and links to cheap textbooks online.
☑ IGNITE! CROSS CULTURAL DIVERSITY & INTERACTION: Work closely with the Cross Cultural Center and Umbrella Council to address the needs of its constituents, and to increase consciousness on campus.
